3 Things To Do After Relocating To A New Country
Moving into a new city or country can sometimes be a daunting experience, especially if it is your first time being in that particular country. However, it can be an interesting yet enjoyable experience when settling in. These are our 5 things to do after moving into a new country!
Important Numbers and Information
It is a good practice to take note of important contact information in case of emergency. This can be the phone numbers of local police, ambulance and firefighting brigade, and also your country’s embassy. Having these numbers with you all at times can certainly be of great assistance in times of need
Medical Facilities, Supermarkets, Shopping Malls and Other Amenities
When moving in for the first time, take note of the nearest (reliable) clinic, hospital, dentist etc. Be aware of their standards and pricings as medical treatment varies from country to country. As such, it is important to find one which you would feel most comfortable with.
Supermarkets and shopping malls in some cities may be far away from where you live, which would, therefore, require time to travel. Choosing your accommodation near to supermarkets would be convenient for you to shop for groceries and satisfy your hunger at any time (if the supermarket is open of course). Shopping malls, on the other hand, can be great places to hang out and socialise during after work hours or even over the weekends with your family and friends. Living in close proximity to a shopping mall would give you convenient access to nice restaurants, stores that sell your favourite merchandise, cafes and screen movies at the cinema located within the mall compounds.
Lastly, take note of the other amenities that are located near your apartment or house. The buses, train service can be extremely useful and generally affordable mode of transport. BE sure of the train and bus routes, their fares and of course the peak hours for travel if you do not want to get caught in the crowd. On the other hand, if you have children, you can also see if their schools are near the place you stay. Many expats tend to choose their accommodation which is near to their children’s schools, have access to public transportation for convenient travel as well as the near shopping malls and supermarkets for easy access to retailers, restaurants, cafes and more.
Immersing In The Local Culture
You are probably going to be in the country for some time. Say, approximately a year or two. Nevertheless, it is a great opportunity to open up and understand the local culture and lifestyle. Learn about their lifestyle, language and try their food! For example, if you are moving to Indonesia, you can learn about the local Balinese culture if you are staying in the Bali region, learn about their language, food, traditions etc. It will be an eye-opening experience for sure! Lastly, go and make friends with the locals. They would probably help you transition into the country’s lifestyle faster!
