This French shipping company is number three on our list. Each year, the sea freight liner handles about 1.5 million containers on average. Furthermore,  it has about 470 ships in its fleet, where it operates in about 160 different countries all around the world. Its headquarters are currently in Marseille, where it was founded in 1978.

Number Two: Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC), Swizterland

The MSC company is based in Geneva, Switzerland where it was founded in 1970. MSC is currently the largest privately owned company in the world, where it owns over 480 container handling vessels. Each of the container could hold around 19,000 containers and on average, the ocean liner ships over 2.5 million twenty  foot containers per year.Currently, they have over 480 offices across 150 countries.

Number One: A.P. Moller–Maersk Group, Denmark

The biggest shipping company in the world has long been A.P. Moller–Maersk Group, where it runs the Maersk line.  Founded in 1904 and based in the city of Copenhagen in Denmark, this global giant has shipped more than 3 million twenty foot containers around the world to about 115 countries. In its fleet, the shipping company has about 590 container vessels. It is estimated that the company ships almost as much as 650 billion US dollars in goods every year, which is almost the same as the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Switzerland.
